IFC viewer

Online IFC viewer in your browser

The SeveUp App viewer shows an IFC model, or several models from the same folder, directly in the browser, with no software to install. Use it to find your way around the building, read an object's properties, cut, colour and measure.

No-file demo: the viewer on a real model

These four views come from the SeveUp App viewer as it appears in a demo space, on the "Duplex Apartment" sample model (IFC2X3). No image is retouched.

  1. 1. The whole modelThe scene tree, "By class" tab, lists objects by IFC class with their count. The scene opens in isometric view.
  2. 2. One class only: the doorsThe model's 14 IfcDoor objects, isolated: the rest of the scene is hidden. Handy to check a family of objects at a glance.
  3. 3. The structure: the wallsThe 56 isolated IfcWallStandardCase walls show the partitioning of both storeys, without slabs, roof or furniture.
  4. 4. Select and frameThe two selected stair flights (IfcStairFlight) turn blue, and "Frame the selection" (F key) centres the camera on them.

What the viewer does

  • Read the model and its properties

The scene tree sorts objects by spatial structure, by group or system, or by IFC class. Clicking an object opens its properties, including its storey and GlobalId.

  • Cut by storey

"Section cut" hides everything above a horizontal plane, the "Section box" isolates a volume, and the "Storey" picker frames the view on one level.

  • Colour and isolate

The "Coloring" menu colours the scene "By model", "By IFC class", "By storey" or "By system". "Isolate selection" fades out the rest.

  • Measure

Distance, angle, area, minimum distance between two elements and distance to a face. The unit can be set to "Auto", mm, cm or m.

  • Overlay several models

A folder's 3D view shows the models of several disciplines in a single scene. It creates no new file: each model stays separate.

  • Save views and flag issues

"Save view" stores the state of the scene with a thumbnail. From the "Issues" tab, an issue is created on the object concerned.

Supported formats

  • .ifc and .ifczip files, uploaded one by one or through bulk import.
  • IFC2X3, IFC4 and IFC4X3 schemas.
  • Requirement checks with IDS 1.0 files, and issue exchange in BCF format.

What to know before you start

  • An account is required: the viewer opens from a SeveUp App workspace, not from a public page.
  • Display is not instant: the 3D scene only exists once the revision has finished processing.
  • "By system" colouring shows nothing if the model declares no IFC system.
  • It is a viewer, not a modelling tool: fixes are made in the authoring tool, then the new revision is uploaded.

From upload to 3D scene

An uploaded model goes through three processing steps: "Conversion", "Dataset" and "Scene". The "Models" page shows their progress, the revisions and the size of each file. Once the scene is ready, "View in 3D" opens the viewer.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install software to open an IFC file?
No. The model is shown in the browser once it has been uploaded to a SeveUp App workspace.
Is the viewer free?
It is included in the 14-day free trial, with no commitment. After that, pricing is on quote, based on your volume and organisation.
Which IFC versions are supported?
The IFC2X3, IFC4 and IFC4X3 schemas, as .ifc or .ifczip files.
Can several models be shown together?
Yes. In a folder's "3D views" tab, "Create a 3D view" brings several models into one scene without merging the files.
Can I measure in the model?
Yes: distances, angles, areas, minimum distance between two elements and distance to a face. The "Measurements" panel lists the measurements taken.
Where are my models stored?
In your SeveUp App workspace, kept separate from other organisations. The Security page details what is guaranteed today.
