Quick answer
In a BIM project, a space is a room or zone defined in the model. A space card gathers the information about one space into a single sheet. This page sets out the vocabulary and the points to check, without walking through SeveUp App’s screens.

Space cards come up as soon as a BIM project is organised by rooms or zones. In an IFC model, a space is the object that bounds a room, a local or a zone, with a name, a number and possibly an area. This page stays at the level of the concept. It does not describe SeveUp App’s interface step by step.
Vocabulary
- Space: in an IFC model, the object (type
IfcSpace) that represents a room, a local or a zone. - Space card: the sheet that gathers the information about one space so it can be read at a glance.
- Source model: the IFC file in which the space was defined by the modelling tool.
Prerequisites
The model has to contain spaces. A file that defines none has nothing to show in this form, and that is not a defect of the application.
What can go wrong
An expected room does not appear
The most likely cause is that the space does not exist in the source file. Check it in the modelling tool that produced the IFC, then re-export if needed.
Space names or numbers look inconsistent
This information is usually entered at modelling time. If it is wrong or incomplete, the fix belongs in the source, then in a new version of the model.
FAQ
What is a space card?
It is a sheet that gathers the information about one space of the model: a room, a local or a zone. It lets you read that information without browsing the whole model.
Is a BIM space the same thing as a room?
Not always. An IFC space can represent a room, but also a zone or a volume defined for a specific need, depending on how the model was built.
